The Australian College of Mental Health Nurses (ACMHN) is seeking an independent Board Director who has strong corporate goverance and strategic planning skills.

The ACMHN is the peak professional mental health nursing organisation and the recognised credentialing body for mental health nurses in Australia.

It seeks to represent the profession at all levels of government and across all health service sectors.  In addition, the ACMHN sets standards for practice, supports mental health nursing research and provides a forum for collegial support, networking and ongoing professional development for its members.  Importantly, the ACMHN also works to promote public confidence in and professional recognition of mental health nursing.

The ACMHN has been representing mental health nurses for over 40 years, with currently over 3000 members.

The ACMHN is an Incorporated Association and is bound by the South Australian Incorporations Act 1985.  The National Office of the ACMHN is based in Canberra, with Board Directors from across the country.

Board Directors are responsible to ensure good goverance, compliance with legal obligations and develop and monitor the strategic direction of the College.

The ACMHN is governed by a Board of Directors, comprising the College President and five additional Board Directors, the Chair of the Council of Branches, with the option to appoint two independent Board Directors.  The Board has appointed an independent director with skills in the area of financial management.

The position of Board Director is an honorary position.  Travel, accommodation and out of pocket expenses associated with Board meetings will be covered or reimbursed, according to the ACMHN travel policy.
