Any further information about this vacancy:

Curious Legends is a vibrant small theatre company which has been in operation since 2005. We aim to share wonder in the everyday world around us with children and their adults. We do this through sharing professional theatre performances, creating community theatre projects, and through a range of teaching workshop activities.

We work both in Australia as well as overseas. Last May we received funding for a 6 week theatre project making giant puppets with local villagers in Kalimantan, Indonesia. Currently we're working with the Newcastle Region Library and a variety of sponsors to create a large scale street theatre performance in Newcastle this May. In 2018, we're planning on attending the Subud World Congress in Germany with a community street theatre project.

Our style of theatre uses lots of puppetry, live music, audience interaction, and storytelling. Based in Newcastle, Australia, we draw on artists throughout Australia and the world for our projects. Our imaginations are big, and we're very excited about the next stage for our company!

What We Need

In order to continue growing, we need to incorporate. We are asking for Expressions of Interest from prospective board members wishing to form our new board. This would primarily be in an advisory capacity, with meetings via videolink every 3 months. The initial commitment is 1 year, with the option to renominate. It is not a requirement for directors to be members of this company.

Serving on our board involves:

  1. Meetings every 3 months via videolink
  2. Offering advice where necessary, and when able, in between meetings
  3. Helping steer the overall direction of the company
  4. Providing company oversight
  5. AGM once per year

While we are seeking an active and engaged board, the approach will be hands off. Board members are crucial for advice and helping steer the direction of the company, but should not be involved in the day to day decision making. This will allow directors to engage in a volunteer capacity without having too strenuous a drain on their precious time resources, as well as allowing the staff to do what they are best at.
