Mitchelton Community Preschool Association (MCPA) has had a long history dating back to a group formed by the local housewives association in 1949. In February 1974, the Association purchased a block of land at 117 Blackwood Street, Mitchelton QLD. Approvals were granted under the Child Care Act 1972 for the design and construction of a full day care centre. The Blackwood Street Child Centre was officially opened in January 1976.
The Association is a not for profit, community based early education and care service, including the operation of registered Kindergarten program. Since 1991 the Centre has traded under the name Blackwood Street Child Centre (BSCC). A volunteer Board of Directors govern the Association in line with its constitution. A full time Operations Manager and General Manager are employed look after the day to day running of the Centre’s business and the requirements of relevant legislation for the sector. Membership of the Association is limited to parents and guardians of children enrolled at the Centre. The constitution of the Association allows for Community Board Member positions that may be filled without the requirement of being a member of the Association.
The Centre has grown and evolved, with many changes and additions to the buildings and grounds during its lifetime to where it is today; educating and caring for up to 87 children aged 0-5, with a strong reputation of high quality care in our local community.

The Centre is seeking a volunteer Community Board Member with a formal background in early childhood education to supply a valuable perspective that has been difficult to obtain from the membership base (parents and guardians of children attending the Centre). These skills and perspectives will complement the variety of other skills possessed by existing Board Members.
Time Required: 2-3hr Monthly Board Meetings. Participation and contribution towards strategies. Provide occasional advice to Centre Management in areas of expertise.
