The Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Women's Shelter is part of the Women's Community Shelters network and offers temporary supported accommodation to victims of domestic violence and/or homelessness. It operates a 10-bed facility for single women. Since opening its doors in Feb 2015, it has been warmly embraced by the local community.

We are currently looking for board members with solid business skills. Board positions are volunteer roles that require commitment to:

  • Monthly board meetings in either Gordon or Hornsby
  • Representing HKWS at events, as required
  • Approx 3 hours per week
  • Raising funds for HKWS

Essential criteria:

  • Broad experience in any of the following fields: PR, Fundraising, Operations, IT, Finances or HR.
  • Hornsby Shire or Ku-ring-Gai local
  • Bucket loads of enthusiasm
  • Willingness to get stuck in and take on tasks
  • Keen desire to make a difference
  • Available to attend monthly board meetings in person
  • An interest in Domestic Violence & Homelessness

Bonus points for

  • Previous board experience
  • Diploma of Business (Governance)

Board members also receive Women's Community Shelters professional development opportunities through training in governance, media, grants, DV awareness, and a host of other streams. We also offer networking and collaboration across our network.

You will be expected to actively advise on and manage projects in your area of expertise and liaise with other board members as well as our shelter manager and admin support.

We particularly encourage males to apply as we have a high percentage of female board members.
