The Australian Council of State School Organisations Ltd (ACSSO)is the recognised national peak voice speaking on behalf of the interests of the families and community of more than 2.5 million children attending our nation's government schools. We are one of the oldest contiuously operating national organisations in Australia. Formed in 1947, ACSSO brings together state and territory parent organisations to have influence on the development of public policy with regard to education in Australia. ACSSO is unapologetically committed to public education.

ACSSO believes the primary obligation of governments, both State and Federal, is to establish and maintain government systems of education which:

  • will be of the highest standard and open to all, irrespective of race, gender, religion, socio-economic status, geographic location and abilities
  • can respond to changing circumstances and can develop the flexible and diverse programs neccessary to meet individual needs
  • provide for and actively seek engagment of parents and community
