Any further information about this vacancy:

Australian Dance Theatre (ADT) is seeking expressions of interest to appoint up to three Board Members following our Annual General Meeting in May, 2019.

ADT is one of Australia’s leading contemporary dance companies, captivating and inspiring local, national and international audiences with our distinctive works which are innovative, challenging and of exceptional artistic quality. Our vision is to be a national and international leader in dance, recognised for our ingenuity and original thinking.

We are renowned for our bold and visionary collaborations with musicians, composers, scientists, designers and multimedia artists working in film, video, robotics, 3D animation, and virtual reality, and our dancers are some of the most elite in their field.

As South Australia’s flagship dance company, ADT has contributed to the State’s vibrant cultural landscape through its original and ground-breaking works. We are also a cultural ambassador for Australia, touring to wide acclaim internationally and performing to over 250,000 people worldwide since 2000 at some of the most prestigious theatres in the world, including the Sydney Opera House, Southbank in London, Theatre de la Ville in Paris and The Joyce in New York.

ADT is based in the newly refurbished Odeon Theatre in the Adelaide suburb of Norwood. The company currently employs a staff of 16, including eight dancers, and is led by our Executive Director Eira Swaine and Artistic Director Garry Stewart, both of whom report to the Board.

Board appointments are for a three-year term. Candidates must be prepared to attend Board and Sub-committee meetings as well as ongoing active engagement, attendance and support with the company’s activities and events throughout the year. The Board meets bi-monthly (six meetings per year) and meetings are generally for two hours on a Tuesday or Friday afternoon. There are also three Board Sub-committees which meet bi-monthly, or more often as required. The majority of our Board Members live and work in Adelaide but this is not essential. We currently have one board member based in Perth and another based in Melbourne. Successful interstate or international Board Members may attend Board meetings via video, Skype or phone, when attendance in person is not practical.

We are seeking expressions of interest to join ADT’s Board as a Director in a volunteer capacity in the following areas:

  • Leadership and Management – preferably currently working in a CEO/COO role and who has experience in board leadership roles and business strategy, as well as experience in connecting business with the not-for-profit sector HR and People Management - we envisage this person is currently working in a senior role in this industry
  • Fundraising and philanthropy - expertise to grow ADT’s corporate and philanthropic funding support to secure ADT’s long-term sustainability, and a willingness to advocate for ADT amongst peers and networks

We are seeking people who strongly believe in the importance of the Arts in our society, and who believe they can help ADT continue to succeed.

ADT welcomes and encourages expressions of interest from First Nations and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse people.

How to apply:

To express your interest, please send your current CV and a letter of introduction outlining your interest and applicable skills to ADT’s Executive Director, Eira Swaine, at eira@adt.org.au by Friday 15 March. At its discretion, ADT’s Governance Committee will conduct applicant interviews before the Board’s approval of appointment(s).
