Doing Things Differently
Any further information about this vacancy:
The Good Karma Effect (GKE) is a fledgling organisation that supports the establishment and development of Good Karma Networks (GKNs). GKNs are suburb-specific Facebook groups providing members with the opportunity to connect with others in their neighbourhood, collaboratively solve problems and build relationships, therefore breaking down barriers and developing community resilience and resourcefulness.
The initiative began in 2016 with the creation of the Kensington Good Karma Network and, in less than two years since January 2017, has inspired the creation of 44 more GKNs around Australia. There is now a combined total of over 58000 members and 90 volunteer administrators across these groups.
The role of the Good Karma Effect is to develop policies and systems to support the volunteer administrative teams to manage the administrative tasks associated with each GKN; to maintain the culture of the GKNs; and to facilitate positive engagement and impact within their communities. It was incorporated in May 2018 as a Company Limited By Guarantee and is now a registered Charity.
With the rapid growth of this initiative we are currently working to build the capacity of our Board and are primarily looking for people with legal, financial, fundraising and/or social media skills or experience who would like to take an active role in the consolidation and growth of this organisation. Previous Board experience is preferable.
The GKE alliance operates on a hub and spoke framework, supporting but empowering local GKNs, and we are looking for new board members who have an open mind to community engagement and a forward thinking approach to board participation.
Our immediate aims are:
To secure the foundations of the organisation by establishing sound systems and resources for the replication and support of GKNs and their continuing growth.
To establish a sustainable financial model and relationships that support the organisation to operate and continue to grow.
To establish consistent brand presence and communications strategy for GKNs/GKE.
To invest in and empower the volunteer administrative teams to engage with each other and our GKNs with the GKE philosophy, the appropriate technology and a hub and spoke model.
To capture and measure impact of the GKNs in people’s lives and our communities in order to share benefits and inspire involvement and action.
To empower communities to identify local challenges and then address them by connecting and utilising existing community resources where possible.
To create a network effect that amplifies the opportunities available, accesses underutilised community resources and reduces resource expenditure.
