Urban Camp Melbourne Cooperative Ltd

Urban Camp Melbourne is a Not-for-Profit community based enterprise managed by a Board of Directors elected from the Co-operative membership.

The Camp prides itself on being an affordable accommodation venue for its membership base of approximately 950 individuals and institutions made up from schools, special needs and community groups visiting Melbourne.  For visitors from rural Victoria, interstate and overseas the Camp provides a unique camping experience in the heart of the city.

The Board

The Urban Camp board comprises of eight directors, seven of those being volunteer positions and the eight position filled by the CEO.  The board wishes to recruit two non-executive directors who have a general interest in the work of Urban Camp.

There are normally six scheduled board meetings each year and directors will be required to have and maintain:

  • Basic financial literacy
  • Reasonable knowledge of Urban Camp’s structures, operations, risks and controls;
  • Integrity, objectivity, accountability, honesty and openness;
  • Dedication of time and effort;
  • An enquiring mind;
  • Independence of judgment;
  • Relevant industry knowledge; and
  • Business experience in the public or private sector.

Key Selection Criteria

Urban Camp is particularly interested in candidates able to provide knowledge, skills experience and or appropriate contacts in one or more of:

-corporate governance, evidenced by qualifications from AICD or the Governance Institute;

-degree qualifications and commensurate experience in:

  • Marketing and Communications
  • Education

-Prior experience as a non-executive director; and

-Senior management experience, in a not-for-profit environment.
