Welcome To My Yard (WTMY) is an innovative social enterprise partnering with street-based children, young people, families and those at risk in Nepal to provide holistic community-based support, practical education, training and savings schemes.

This established operation runs on a small budget, employs a number of Nepal-based staff and leverages the support of wonderful International volunteers to keep the business thriving. It is a truly unique charity, making a massive difference in the lives of vulnerable street kids.

The Welcome To My Yard board in Australia consists of a small and dedicated team who meet once every second month in Campsie (evening). The primary function of the board is to govern the organisation and oversee a number of committees that run fundraising, awareness and capacity building activities in support of the Nepal operation. The organisation is growing and will require new skilled volunteers to support this growth. As such, the board is currently seeking an enthusiastic and capable voluntary Treasurer.

What we are looking for:

  • Someone who can commit to atleast 2 years of service to provide some continuity and stability to the business.
  • Accounting/bookkeeping experience and prior experience with the Not For Profit sector would be beneficial but is not compulsory.
  • An interest and (preferably) expertise in governance.
  • Willingness to share knowledge and learn from others in the team.
  • Solid financial management skills.
  • Ability to support the preparation of cashbooks and basic financial statements for the organisation.
  • Ability to commit to attend a board meeting every two months (you can call into a meeting via phone if not able to attend in person).
  • Ability to participate in meetings via Skype with Nepal team, approximately once per month. Note that all of the Nepal team members speak English!
  • Willingness to work collaboratively and flexibly with other board members in the context of a small and evolving International organisation.

This role offers a genuine opportunity to participate in shaping and building the organisation. Our board is friendly and our work is meaningful. Your contribution in this much-needed position will make a real difference, both here in Australia and overseas.
