Alternative Public Holiday Policy

A growing number of employees are asking to change controversial public holidays, and religious public holidays to better align with their values and beliefs. This policy template has been designed to help your organisation set out expectations if you do wish to allow your staff to choose alternative public holidays.

Please note that not all modern awards or enterprise agreements allow for the substitution of another day for a public holiday. Employers should review any applicable modern award or enterprise agreement to ensure substitution is permissible.
