Launch: 2025 Australian Community Boards Wellbeing Report

Date: 17 Dec 2025

Wednesday 17 December | 11:00–11:30AM AEDT | Online | Recorded

Presented by Community Directors | FREE to attend

Australian research reveals rising stress and burnout rates across workplaces and not-for-profits¹², but until now, there has been almost no national data specifically on the wellbeing of the members of not-for-profit boards. Join us for the launch of the 2025 Australian Community Boards Wellbeing Report.

About the session

In this session, Community Directors trainer Jon Staley will walk attendees through the 2025 Australian Community Boards Wellbeing Report.

The report draws from a survey was conducted online by Community Directors in July 2025. It was open for one month, and in that time it drew 575 complete responses from board members across a diverse range of organisations.

The data shows that board challenges are not inevitable, and solutions already exist within the sector. Ways to reduce board members’ stress are generally well known. However, Australian NFPs vary in size, and the data highlights the need for targeted support rather than a generalised approach.

Jon will also highlight a suite of tools to help your board lead with wellbeing, created and curated by the Community Directors team.

This 30-minute session will be held live and free on Wednesday 17 December from 11:00am to 11:30am AEDT.

Jon Staley | Trainer, governance and community leadership

BA (Hons), DipEd, Certificate IV (Training and Assessment), Dip Gov, FICDA

Jon has a background as a teacher, trainer, social entrepreneur, filmmaker and writer. He began his career teaching at Melbourne's Northland Secondary College, where in 2000 he was awarded the Peter Clarke Teaching for Reconciliation Award based on his work with the Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal community at the school. He spent several years being mentored by and working alongside Gunditjmara artist and filmmaker Richard Frankland and together they developed a cross-cultural education program, Planting Seeds, which shone a light on the invisible load that Aboriginal communities in Australia have carried in the wake of colonisation.

In 2008 Jon founded the not-for-profit youth media social enterprise Youthworx, which uses creative and commercial media to work with young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, and he led the organisation until 2020 when he joined Our Community.
