If recent high-profile media disasters (QANTAS, Optus, Woolworths and Coles) gave you a ripple of unease this is your chance to turn your next media opportunity into a triumph. (Or at least not a career-limiting experience.)

Brett de Hoedt of Hootville Communications understands the nonprofit sector better than any other media trainer in Australia having worked with 1000+ nonprofits over a 25 year career.

He has trained hundreds of media spokespeople – typically dealing with complex and sensitive issues.

As a print and radio journalist he has interviewed hundreds of people from politicians and CEOs to celebrities and community heroes.

He has fronted the media himself many times. (And left them begging for more, so he claims.)

Despite having delivered dozens of lively, challenging webinars and face-to-face sessions for ICDA and Our Community Brett has never presented an Interview Savvy webinar.

This practical 75-minute session will be drawn from his Interview Savvy workshop and is a valuable opportunity for those destined for the media spotlight.

  • When is it OK to refuse an interview?
  • What makes someone “good talent”?
  • Just what is off or on the record?
  • Dealing with the journalist / producer before and after your interview.
  • The questions to ask your journalist beforehand.
  • Preparing your key messages and content.
  • Taking control of an interview.
  • Techniques to improve your performance: repetition, emphasis, name checks, hypotheticals.
  • Dealing with tough questions and thorny issues.
  • Lots of examples – good and bad.
  • Live interview rehearsal with some lucky participants.
  • Q&A

What's a Webinar?

A Webinar is a seminar that's conducted over the internet.

Viewers watch a remote presentation on their own screens at a set broadcast time and can participate by typing and submitting questions they would like answered by the presenter.

Our Webinars are recorded and a copy is sent out to every registrant by default. So if you aren't able to watch the Webinar live at the scheduled time, you don't need to do anything - we'll send you a copy you can watch at your own pace on your own screen.

Why Webinars work

You'll learn at a time that suits you
If you can't join us at the scheduled time, we will automatically send you a recording you can watch at your own pace.

You can ask your burning questions
Our Webinars include a 45-minute presentation followed by a 15 minute interactive Q&A session where you'll call the shots. You do so by typing your questions during the Webinar.

You don't need an IT degree
There's no complicated software involved. You just need a reliable internet connection to participate. We'll email you instructions at each step too. Simple!
