NFP staff urged to get in quick to access AI scholarships

Social enterprise Infoxchange has partnered with Google.org to offer 2500 scholarships worth up to $500 each.

The scholarships provide training in the practical use of AI for those in non-technical roles.

Graduates will receive a certificate in Google Career Essentials, a self-paced online course designed to develop “workplace ready” AI skills.

Courses cover the use of generative AI tools for content creation, problem-solving and task automation; address ethical issues, bias and misinformation; assist users with better prompting; and consider how AI can be used in “real world” scenarios.

The program comes under the banner of the Asia-Pacific AI Nonprofit Learning Community – hosted in Australia by Infoxchange – whose mission is to help community-focused organisations build their AI capability and keep pace with digital change.

But with the offer open to not-for-profits across 43 countries in the Asia Pacific, the scholarships are expected to be snapped up quickly.

“This is a practical step toward closing the capability gap in AI,” Infoxchange CEO David Spriggs said.

“While the private sector races ahead, not-for-profits are often left without the tools, training or time to explore emerging technologies. But they are the very organisations who can ensure AI is used ethically, inclusively and for the public good.

“This is about building capability across the whole sector,” he said.

“If we want a fair and inclusive digital future, the community sector must be equipped to lead it.”

To access the scholarship, staff need to join the Asia-Pacific AI Nonprofit Learning Community and complete a short ethics module or webinar. Scholarships will be issued soon after.

Applications are open until the scholarships are exhausted.
